11mrd — Touch Sensitive Bowl Prototype from 11mrd on Vimeo.

We applied the touch sensing approach on a standard wooden bowl, registering touch all around the revolving conical surface made of bamboo wood and thereby enable people to interact with it. The result is a real-time Sonification of the object’s form.

This prototype aimed to proof the feasibility of applying the touch sensitive technique on standard products. This prototype recognises touch in numerous regions and transfers tactile data wirelessly in real-time. Sound generation and modulation is rendered on a computer.

Decoding user behaviour to generate ideas and design concepts, connecting insights to design, envisioning social inclusion! capturing user behaviour to gain in-depth knowledge about the use of products in-situ. Developing and fine tuning a technology which enables measurement and visualisation of human touch on complex surfaces. This technology helps to understand user behaviour and how objects and products are used in an objective manner. With the results from these studies, designs could be improved and help to make better products for broader user groups.
